I speak on CNN on Pope Leo XIV's election

Father Twomey must be rejoicing in heaven over the papal name
13

I have had a great deal of change in my life lately, which has stalled my work on my Father Louis J. Twomey, SJ, biography in the short term but will help it a great deal in the long term. Soon I should be able to share more on that change and why it bodes well for my writing. But in the meantime, I’d like to share with you the appearance I made earlier this evening on CNN’s The Lead with Jake Tapper to discuss Pope Leo XIV’s election.

When you hear me discuss the significance of the new Holy Father’s name, and how it makes me feel like crying for joy, know that I am crying because I am picturing Father Twomey rejoicing in heaven. Pope Leo’s most recent namesake, Leo XIII, wrote the social-justice encyclical Rerum novarum that, along with Pius XI’s Quadragesimo anno, inflamed Twomey with the sense of mission—his desire to help workers and the poor—that he carried with him throughout his working life.

More soon, I promise! Pray for me; I pray for you! And please keep the new Holy Father in your prayers.
